Top 20 Job Posting Red Flags of the Month (June 15, 2023)

If you're out there looking for a new job like so many of us, you better keep your eyes open for these major red flags! We all know what some of these red flags look like. For instance, when you're applying to jobs on Indeed or LinkedIn, you are very likely to come across a posting where the salary is "competitive," the benefits are vague, and the years of required experience are ludicrous. There is no universe in which an entry-level position should require over five years of on-the-job experience. Once upon a time, people could just walk in with some semblance of confidence and leave with a good-paying job. What the heck happened, right? Whatever happened to keeping our expectations low? Almost anyone can be trained! Let's not be high-and-mighty about it.

    Keep these translations near you whenever you're browsing LinkedIn or Indeed!

    Font - cheesing MyB "Fast paced enviornment" means insane deadlines and bosses breathing down your neck. "Unique challenges" means constant clusterf "Occasional overtime" means just say goodbye to your family because you'll never leave the office again. 2.6k Reply Share

    "New role" means you'll be doing the work of at least five people!

    Font - HAPPY HOLL Matte32Yea. Whenever they say they are looking for someone to fill a 'new role,' it often means there is no predefined job description, and no one has a clear idea of what your tasks will be. It can be chaotic, leaving you unsure about the nature of your job.     They almost always know exactly who they're hiring on LinkedIn! Let's be honest!

    This is baffling!

    Font - jenh6. I saw one job posting that was front desk administrator at a retirement home. Requires a bachelors degree, 10 year experience. Your role was a/p, a/r, payroll, journal entry, bank recs. Then to add to that, SEO management, social media management, updating the website. Oh and if that wasn't enough there was an HR requirement too. Hiring, training new staff, outlying policies, reviews, payroll, etc. so basically doing the work of 3 departments all for the great wage of 38k 455 Reply
